Glenn Maxwell misses Pakistan tour early in IPL
The Australian all-rounder's wedding is set to take place next month
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the Pakistan tour and the opening few matches of the Indian Premier League due to his wedding next month.
Maxwell told Fox Sports that the clash was inevitable due to changes in the schedule. He is one of the players retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore team along with Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj.
After the third T20 against Sri Lanka in Canberra, Maxwell said, “When I first arranged the dates with the CA there was a two-week break.
"So when I sorted it out, I'm so glad I'm not going to miss any series. Then I came to the [CA] contract meeting in the middle of last year, they said well, it was [when] the Pakistan series [on] and since we last talked. I thought it had changed. "
The IPL is expected to start in the last week of March and the Pakistan limited-overs tour is scheduled from March 29.
Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson and spinner Adam Zambia left India last year due to the devastating COVID-19 wave before the IPL was suspended.
Neither bowler picked up in last week’s IPL mega auction.
Richardson was very surprised that Jamba went unsold. "I'm very shocked about him. To be honest, I remember talking to him about the situation, initially when we left last year.
"I told him, look, it might come back and bite us, we were not prioritizing being there at the time. We wanted to go back to Australia so I think there must be some kind of thing. Buyers will be very careful in taking us away thinking we will never come back. It's an I think that’s the factor, ”Richardson said.
The right-arm fast bowler missed the 2020 IPL series after his baby was born. He said he understands why IPL teams did not bid for him but did not speak to any of them.
"I think it's a factor. I do not know. I've never had a conversation with an owner or a person who says it's like that. But I do not think so.No year before my boy was born.
“So my reputation has probably not gone up in the last two years, so it's not me.
"I try to play cricket as much as I can. But I think the circumstances of the last two IPL matches have kept me from going. But that is not the reputation I want," he added.
